Six county towns see sales tax increase

The November distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from September business.

Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically.

The monies they reported this period represent sales from September 16 to 30 and estimated sales from October 1 to October 15.

The November breakdown is as follows:

The disbursement of $158,558,220 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $2,682,742 from the $155,875,478 distributed to the cities and towns in November last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $24,250,271.

In county returns, the counties shared in a $26,022,874 sales tax disbursement and a $4,218,220 use tax disbursement.

Six of the eight county towns collecting sales tax saw an increase while the rest saw decreases.

The following are the sales tax figures for each community, 2020 is listed first and the same time period for 2019, followed by the totals for 2020:

• Aline, $3,794, $2,547, for an increase of $1,247, for a total of $26,129 in 2020.

• Burlington, $758, $972, for a decrease of $214 for a total of $7,627 in 2020.

• Byron, $448, $202, for an increase of $246, for a total of $3,338 in 2020.

• Carmen, $4,042, $9,011, for a decrease of $4,969, for a total of $61,056 in 2020.

• Cherokee, $52,192, $48,307, for an increase of $3,885, for a total of $523,324 for 2020.

• Goltry, $12,004, $1,649, for an increase of $10,355, for a total of $29,786 in 2020.

• Helena, $9,642, $8,878, for an increase of $764, for a total of $127,320 in 2020.

• Jet, $2,768, $2,504, for an increase of $264, for a total of $28,559 in 2020.

Alfalfa County, collections for 2019 were $129,711 and the figure has decreased to $97,930, for a decrease of $31,781 from the same time period last year. The county has collected $982,435 for all of 2020.

Use Tax

Use tax collections were increases for all of the six towns whom collect use tax.

Use tax collections returned and last year’s figures follow:

• Aline, $3,505, $691, for an increase of $2,814.

• Carmen, $3,578, $1,088 for an increase of $2,490

• Cherokee, $9,491, $8,012, for an increase of $1,479.

• Goltry, $4,585, $702, for an increase of $3,883.

• Helena, $1,190, $1,170, for an increase of $20.

• Jet, $665, $576, for an increase of $89.

Alfalfa County as a whole saw an increase of $6,904 from $17,458 in 2019 to $24,362 in 2020.
