OTC releases January sales tax numbers

The January distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from November business.

Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically.

The monies they reported this period represent sales from November 16 to 30 and estimated sales from December 1 to December 15.

The January breakdown is as follows:

The disbursement of $164,181,289 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $4,189,918 from the $159,991,371 distributed to the cities and towns in January last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $29,517,666.

In county returns, the counties shared in a $25,947,908 sales tax disbursement and a $5,243,840 use tax disbursement.

Six of the eight county towns collecting sales tax saw an increase while the rest saw decreases.

The following are the sales tax figures for each community, 2021 is listed first and the same time period for 2020, followed by the totals for 2021:

• Aline, 7,029, $3,047, for an increase of $3,982, for a total of $7,029 in 2021.

• Burlington, $819, $714, for an increase of $105 for a total of $819 in 2021.

• Byron, $366, $337, for an increase of $29, for a total of $366 in 2021.

• Carmen, $4,123, $10,509, for a decrease of $6,386, for a total of $4,123 in 2021.

• Cherokee, $47,845, $58,863, for a decrease of $11,018, for a total of $47,845 for 2021.

• Goltry, $11,960, $1,343, for an increase of $10,617, for a total of $11,960 in 2021.

• Helena, $12,094, $10,739, for an increase of $1,355, for a total of $12,094 in 2021.

• Jet, $2,829, $2,172, for an increase of $657, for a total of $2,829 in 2021.

Alfalfa County, collections for 2020 were $122,610 and the figure has decreased to $104,830 for a decrease of $17,780 from the same time period last year. The county has collected $104,830 for all of 2021.

Use Tax

Use tax collections were increases for all of the six towns whom collect use tax.

Use tax collections returned and last year’s figures follow:

• Aline, $12,024, $1,21, for an increase of $11,003.

• Carmen, $2,309, $1,292 for an increase of $1,017.

• Cherokee, $14,120, $11,063, for an increase of $3,057.

• Goltry, $1,746, $898, for an increase of $848.

• Helena, $2,219, $1,632, for an increase of $587.

• Jet, $839, $734, for an increase of $105.

Alfalfa County as a whole saw an increase of $16,997 from $17,584 in 2020 to $34,581 in 2021.
