Farmerettes OHCE hold their June meeting

Farmerettes Oklahoma Home & Community Education group held their June meeting at the New Fairgrounds Conference Room with Loretta Sharp as hostess. Elisa Crowder, group president, called the meeting to order and led the group in the Salute to the American Flag.

Roll call, “Your favorite summer activity”, was answered by twelve members and one guest:

Pauline Trissell, Sharp, Marlene Buck, Cheryl Poe, Crowder, Terri Woods, Tammi Miller, Marguerite McMurtrey, Pat Marzolf, Lynetta Cressler, Carolyn Stands, Sharon LaRue and guest Delana Hansel.

Poe presented the lesson, “Budgeting Basics”. This lesson was missed in January because the meeting was cancelled due to Covid. A budget is a financial plan that takes income and expenses into account and provides estimates for how much you make and spend over a given period of time. Poe pointed out that creating a budget and sticking to it can help you save and reach your short- and long-term financial goals. She explained different methods and passed out some budget worksheets. The information presented helped those new to budgeting and provided a refresher course for those who already use a budget.

Marzolf, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved as read.

The next Blood Drives will be July 29 and November 30 at the Alfalfa County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building from 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sharp and McMurtrey have agreed to serve as co-chairmen for the Blood Drives project.

Additional plans were discussed for the Project Booth and Educational Booths for the Alfalfa County Fair. Although the official dates have not been set, we were told it will probably be held September 8 – 11 with set-up on the 7th.

Lunchtime Learning workshop will be July 11 from 12 to 1 p.m. on Summer Salads. Cost is $10 and includes a light lunch. Please RSVP to the Extension Office at 596-3131. This is open to the public.

Next meeting will be July 1with Woods as hostess, Sharp as lesson leader and Poe devotional leader.

State OHCE Conference will be August 1, 2, 3 in Oklahoma City.

We are happy to welcome Delana Hansel as a new member of Farmerettes!

Sharp served strawberry cake and ice cream to celebrate her birthday the next day. The group sang “Happy Birthday” to her and presented her with a card.
