Motorcycle wreck sends one to hospital

A Kiowa, Kan. man was mediflighted after a two motorcycle accident on County Road 580 and Noble Road, five miles north of Burlington at approximately 3:15 p.m., July 4.

Jeremy Stewart, Kiowa, Kan., and Alexander Kuhr, Kiowa, Kan., were northbound on County Road 580 when they passed a disabled car on the roadside. Stewart slowed on his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle and Kuhr turned to look at the disabled car and struck Stewart on his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle.

Stewart wasn’t injured in the accident.

Kuhr was transported by Alfalfa County EMS to Kiowa District Hospital in Kiowa, Kan, then transferred by medical helicopter to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. where he was admitted in critical condition with leg, arm, trunk external, trunk internal and head injuries.

According to the accident report released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the cause of the collision was a distraction outside of vehicle.

The accident was investigated by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Randy McCullough. He was assisted by Burlington Fire Department and Alfalfa County EMS.
