New royalty crowned at the 2021 Great Salt Plains Stampede Rodeo

Three new royalty members were added to the long list of those crowned at the Great Salt Plains Stampede Rodeo.

The rodeo was held over two days, Aug. 27 and Aug. 28.

Friday night, the Jr. Princess and Princess were crowned.

The Jr. Princess and Princess contests are scored by four categories: horsemanship, 50 percent; interview, 25 percent; ticket sales, 5 percent and western wear, 20 percent. The Jr. Princess must sell $500 worth of tickets and the Princess must sell $600 worth.

Kessler Kolb was crowned the 2021 Great Salt Plains Stampede Rodeo Jr. Princess. She received a jar of Jan’s Pickles donated by Megan Rice, earrings by Salt Plains Sass owned by Hailey Cudmore, belt buckle by Sonny and Donna Daub, tiara donated by 2012 GSPSR Queen Ralyn Waugh, bouquet of roses donated by Cherokee Floral & Gifts and a sash designed and donated by Shelly’s Embroidery and Design.   

Kolb received the western wear award, a tote bag donated by Billy Ruth Girty; and the horsemanship award, a breast collar donated by Nicole, Talyn and Tanis Allison.

First runner-up was Alida Leeper. She received a horseshoe silver necklace donated by Macky and Donna Prince.

Second runner-up was Ramsey Green. She received a horseshoe silver necklace donated by B&B Roofing.

Green won the interview award and received a backpack donated by Haven Davis.

Third runner-up was Paizlee Waugh. She received a horseshoe silver necklace donated by B&B Roofing.

Waugh won Miss Congeniality and received a horse blanket donated by Sabrina Wilber.

Quinn Parks received $100 donated in memory of Slim McColl and second high ticket sales.

Brynley Roadenbaugh received the hair supplies donated by Strand Salon.

Dally Walborn received the sportsmanship and a western purse given in honor of Loydetta Collar and Jeanne Pelter.

Each contestant received a rose from Cherokee Floral and Gifts, tote bag filled with prizes from Cherokee RoundUp Club, 5×7 picture from Karen Eckhardt Photography, T-shirt from Shelly’s Embroidery & Design, gift sack from Farmers Table, T-shirt donated by Hughes of Spirit, sugar cookies from Lacey’s Pantry and a turquoise bracelet from Kyla Goetz Becker.

The 2021 Great Salt Plains Stampede Rodeo Princess was Jancey Goodno. She received a jar of Jan’s Pickles donated by Megan Rice; earrings donated by Salt Plains Sass; belt buckle by Tyler and Megan Rice; tiara donated by Ralyn Waugh; a bouquet of roses donated by Cherokee Floral and Gifts and a sash designed and donated by Shelly’s Embroidery & Design.     

Goodno won the Miss Congeniality Award and received a horse blanket donated by Sabrina Wilber; western wear award and received a tote bag donated by Billy Ruth Girty; interview award and received a backback donated by Haven Davis; and horsemanship award and received a breast collar donated by Nicole, Talyn and Tanis Allison.

Angelien Stewart was the first runner-up. She received a horseshoe silver necklace donated by Jana Oister DDS and 2015 GSPSR Princess Baylee Oister.

Stewart received hair supplies donated by Strand Salon.

Aileen Ordonez was the second runner-up. She received a horsehoe silver necklace from Karen Eckhardt Photography.

Ordonez also won the sportsmanship award and received a western purse given in memory of Loydetta Collar and Jeanne Pelter.

Madison Weve was the third runner-up. She received a horseshoe silver necklace donated by Keith and Margaret Smith.

Weve also won $100 given in memory of Slim McColl.

The queen portion of the competition was held Saturday night.

The queen contest is scored by four categories: horsemanship, 50 percent; interview, 30 percent; ticket sales, 10 percent; and western wear, 10 percent. Each contestant must sell a minimum of $800 in tickets to qualify for the contest.

The 2021 Great Salt Plains Stampede Rodeo Queen is Holly Detrick. She received a saddle and breast collar donated by Cherokee Roundup Club; a jar of Jan’s Pickles donated by Megan Rice, earrings by Salt Plains Sass owned by Hailey Cudmore, belt buckle by Butch and Rita Porter, tiara donated by 2012 GSPSR Queen Ralyn Waugh, bouquet of roses donated by Cherokee Floral & Gifts and a sash designed and donated by Shelly’s Embroidery and Design.

Detrick won sportsmanship award and received a western purse in honor of Loydetta Collar and Jeanne Pelter; western wear award and received a tote bag donated by Billy Ruth Girty; top interview award and received a backpack donated by Haven Davis; early bird high ticket seller and received $100 donated by Davis Valley Farms; and high ticket seller and received belt buckle donated by Jim and Rozella Hadwiger.

First runner-up was Macy Goodwin. She received a horseshoe turquoise necklace donated by Reliant Direct Primary Care/Dr. Niki Wyatt and Sydney Wyatt.

Goodwin received $100 in memory of Slim McColl.

Second runner-up was Axi Payne. She received a horseshoe turquoise necklace donated by The Healthy Touch.

Payne won the horsemanship award and received saddle pad donated by Nicole, Talyn and Tanis Allison.

Third runner-up was Abbey Gibson. She received a horseshoe turquoise necklace donated by Ronnie and Cathy Wessels.

Given out during both nights of the rodeo were three grills and two-$100 bills.

A big part of the rodeo world is centered around faith and country. Prior to the rodeo Charity Pulliam rides with Ole Glory.

Muttin bustin has become a crowd favorite for young boys and girls. Turner Allison hangs on till the buzzer with a 92 point ride, bringing in second place. Check back in next week’s edition for more pictures from the rodeo and the parade.
