Dora Jean DeVore

Dora Jean DeVore was born on September 24, 1929 in Helena to Harry B. and Lida V. Frickel Astley. She passed from this life into eternity with Jesus on February 6, 2020.

Dora Jean attended country school and Helena High School, graduating in 1948 and Enid General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with her RN certificate in 1951.

She married George F. DeVore on October 19, 1951 and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2008. Together they had three children, Linda Rhodes of Dacoma, Mike DeVore of Dallas, and Karen (Bo) Horyna of El Dorado, Kansas.

As a military couple, they began their journey in Alamogordo, New Mexico, then moved to Ursel, France, and to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, before returning and settling in Helena. Dora Jean worked as an RN over 50 years in Alva Hospital, New Mexico, Helena Clinic, Ro-Mel Nursing Home in Helena, Helena Training School for Boys, and NORCE before semi-retiring to serve her community and care for her family and friends. Dora Jean enjoyed volunteering at Wheatheart, serving at the Helena United Methodist Church, and assisting others in their medical care. Her numerous interests revolved around sporting events, shopping, hair appointments, road trips, and grandchildren.

Dora Jean has seven grandchildren, Beth (Greg) LeCrone of Lakenheath, England, Daniel (Bobbi) Koehn of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Taylor Horyna of Wichita, Kansas, Ashley Horyna of Augusta, Kansas, Brendon Horyna of Manhattan, Kansas, Kristen Horyna of El Dorado, Kansas, and Mallory Horyna of El Dorado, Kansas. She has five great grandchildren, Will and Emily LeCrone, Dallen and Jase Koehn, and Harper Brown.

Dora Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; three brothers, Kenneth, Carl, and Lawrence Astley.

She is survived by her children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; numerous family and friends who loved her dearly. Their favorite childhood story is of her horse, Sparky that she would ride to school, unless he bucked her off and ran back home.

Celebration of Dora Jean’s life was 2 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Helena United Methodist Church with the Reverend Lisa Anderson officiating.

Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. Viewing with family present was from 5-7 p.m., Saturday . at the funeral home. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Helena United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
