Lt. Shirley Jo Lanning

Lt. Shirley Jo Lanning was born November 15, 1961, in Alva. She left this life far too soon on February 14, 2020.

Shirley had a passion for law enforcement. She worked as a public servant for the Oklahoma County Jail, the University of Central Oklahoma, US Marshals, Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department and finally for the Canadian County Sheriff’s Department.

Shirley was a real spitfire. She displayed her compassionate heart by fiercely fighting for and defending all those that she loved. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her parents, John and Clara Frech; husband, David Lanning; step-son, Seann Lanning; sister, Beth Schoeling and her husband Gary; brothers, Paul Frech and his wife Donita and Chris Frech and his wife Cecilia; nephews, Kyle Schoeling and Cody Frech and his wife Emily; niece, Cortney Frech; great-niece, Sophia Chastain; and many other family members, coworkers, and friends.

Funeral services were held  at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at Henderson Hills Baptist Church, interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Concerns of Police Survivors 3100 Highland Glenn, Norman, OK 73069.
