Verna Powell

Verna was born on July 12, 1935 to Vernon Stanley and Laura “Alice” Harris northeast of Helena and passed from this life on February 27, 2020.

On July 16, 1952, Verna married John Powell at the Helena Christian Church. Three sons were born to this union: Johnny, Vernon, and Frank.

Verna was a certified nursing assistant, working over 30 years at the Great Plains Care Center in Helena. She also helped John on the farm with hog production and in haying season. Verna enjoyed cooking, watching westerns, and shopping trips. She loved to get a Sonic hamburger with mustard and onions and a vanilla milkshake when she was on one of her outings. Verna attended Community Bible Church outside of Lahoma in the Green Valley Community.

Those who preceded her in death include her husband, John; her dad, Vernon Stanley; her mother, Alice Harris, and one brother, Verdis “Bud” Stanley.

Survivors of Verna include her three sons, Johnny Powell and wife, Susan, Vernon Powell and wife, Virginia and Frank Powell and wife, Janel; grandchildren, Garett Powell, Brandi and Shelton Conwright, Maclane and Pauline Powell, Andy and Christina Powell, Barrett Powell, and Ryli Powell; great grandchildren, Henslee, Taylor and Piper Powell, Carter and Christian Conwright, and McKenna Powell; step grandchildren, Michael and Tru Ross, Gena and Tim Kirkham, Nate and Javon Ross; step great grandchildren, Shane and Macie Batie, Landon Blackburn, Meade, Mesa and Amiah Ross, Colton and Cooper Kirkham, and Trevor Ross; step great-great grandchildren, Braden and Carson Batie.

Services for Verna were at 1 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2020 at Community Bible Church in the Green Valley Community near Lahoma. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery south of Helena with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.
