Charlene R. Ackerman
Charlene R. Ackerman, age 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2020, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kan.
She was born December 14, 1934, at Burlington, the daughter of Walter W. and Irene Marie (Schurter) Armbruster. As a young girl she attended school in Burlington, graduating from Burlington. After her graduation, she attended Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva. Most of her college years took place after her children were born.
On July 31, 1955, she married Dan Ackerman in Cherokee. Later in 1972, the couple moved to Meade, Kan., where she began her teaching career with USD 226, teaching forth grade for many years.
She was a member of PEO, the Friends of the Meade Library, and a quilting club of Liberal, Kan. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the biggest joy in life. She was obsessed with quilting, and loved gardening, working in her flower beds, photography, and scrapbooking.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Ackerman of Meade, Kan.; two sons, Brad Ackerman and wife Crys, and Randy Ackerman and wife Pam, both of Meade, Kan.; a daughter, Danette Langford and husband Rjay of Meade, Kan.; two sisters, Carolee A. Whitacre and husband Bob of LaHabra, Calif., and Cecelia I. Castle and husband Richard of Jet; a sister-in-law, Patricia A. Armbruster of Burlington; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Armbruster.
Private family funeral services will be held at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kan. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow private services in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
The family would welcome memorials to the Lone Tree Retirement Center or the Meade Public Library in care of the funeral home.
