Linda Lou Cushenbery

Linda Lou Cushenbery was born to Robert John Failes, Jr. and Esther Bernice Coulter Failes on September 2, 1941 in Cherokee.

She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

She left this world after a brief illness on December 29, 2021 at the age of 80. She grew up five miles north of Cherokee on her family’s farm. Linda was a member of the Driftwood First Baptist Church and attended her first three years of school at Driftwood Schools, then finished out her school years at Cherokee Public Schools, graduating in May 1962.

On Christmas Eve, 1959 she married Dale Arnold Cushenbery. They made their home in Cherokee, where they resided all their lives. To this union five children were born: Michael, Rodney, Brenda, Deborah, and Sharon.

Linda worked most of her life in the food service industry, doing everything from washing dishes to running her own café for twelve years. It was located at Cherokee Sales Company, where she found her love of cooking. So many fond memories and life-long friendships were made in that little café.

Linda is survived by her three brothers, Kenneth Failes and wife, Marcia, Cherokee, Larry Failes, Cherokee, and James Failes, Midwest City; four children, Michael Cushenbery and wife, Doris, Broken Arrow, Brenda O’Connor and husband, Bob, Lockwood, Mo., Deborah Dunn and husband, Roy, California, Mo., and Sharon Tullis and husband, Brian Coons, Seiling.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Joshua Cushenbery, Molly Blew, Jared Prewett, Jamie Weymoth, Byron Steier, all of Seiling, Christopher Dunn, Fulton, Mo., Kayla Dunn, Tebbetts, Mo., Vicky Kemphor, California, Mo., Carson Tullis, Payton Tullis, Keaton Tullis and Rachael Jones, all of Seiling, and eighteen great grandchildren.

Linda had many special friends throughout her life, but Debra Engle was at the top of her list.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Esther Failes; Dale Cushenbery, her husband, of 46 years; sister-in-law, Bobbie Ann Failes; son, Rodney William Cushenbery, and granddaughter, Bonnie Lee Prewett.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee.

A gathering of family and close friends will be held directly after the memorial service at the Baker Building in Cherokee.
