Cherokee High School track members break school records, get name on board

Cherokee’s Abby Guffy set the school record in the 1600 meter run with a run of 5:37.84 beating Tina Shafer’s 5:47.54 set in 1986. Guffy set the record at the regional meet on April 30. She also set the record in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:26.37 on April 13 at a meet in Cherokee. She broke Shafer’s record of 12:46.21 set in 1986. Guffy, Macy Goodwin, Carson Schanbacher and Riley Hensley broke the school record in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 10:13.73 at the state track meet on May 8. The old record was held by Andrea Caruthers, Brooke Ottesen, Nikki Hall and Stephanie Bontrager in 1989 with a time of 10:24.27. Jade Jantzen broke his own school record with a jump of 14’ at the state track meet. He previously broke the school record in 2019 with a jump of 13’1”.
